Chicosem

Jadore top class

This season, the early chicory forcing is characterised by the early ripeness of the chicory roots. As a result, the early varieties soon reached high levels of production and quality. This year, the standard variety Atlas once again delivered good results, but the new varieties Desir and Jadore drew particular attention because of their unprecedented uniformity.

Desir

Desir, one of the newcomers, did very well this year. This variety is recommended for early forcing (harvest of the head until the New Year) but continued to look great everywhere in January too. This variety is therefore a real asset for those who want to start on time in the following season.

Jadore

Jadore, another newcomer for early forcing up to and including February, did well throughout the season. The variety with its outstandingly uniform roots also still produced a perfect batch of chicory in February, as can be seen on the photographs provided by the Broersen family. The quality was still fantastic and production was at its best. The harvesting of Jadore is still a little better than that of Atlas.

Symphonie

The initial results with the new late chicory hybrid Symphonie F1 are now known. The initial test forcing is currently under way and will continue in the coming weeks, and good results are expected. Symphonie produces tight, well-pointed heads and is very productive. Symphonie also has very good root production. On the photographs (click to enlarge) we see Symphonie grown by Mr van Erp from St. Oedenrode, a young crop that can even be forced until late into the autumn.
